A Brief History of Cammacks...

The store is based in the Wide Bagate area of Boston having been purpose built for the Cammack family in the mid 1930's. Upon entering the store you will be greeted by a warm and welcoming environment and the offer of a lift ride to take you to the upper showrooms.

Being based on four floors, Cammacks is deceivingly larger than first impressions, you can be left to browse your way round the store without feeling pressured to buy. Staff will always be available to advise with any question you may have.

Francis Alfred Cammack

1920's

Cammacks was founded by Francis Alfred Cammack in 1919. Francis was an accomplished and gifted cabinetmaker. His original shop was in the Bargate End of Boston, which he started after his 'demobilisation' from the Royal Air Force when the Great War had ended.

1930's

At the tender age of 13, Francis’ eldest son Sydney was allowed to leave school and join the business (approx 1921). Steadily due to the loyalty of their customers, the business grew quickly. Towards the end of the 1920’s Francis’ 2nd son, Frank, joined the business.

In May 1931, Francis had the present day shop built in Wide Bargate, and with having four floors it boasted Boston’s first motorized lift. Francis' 3rd son, Kenneth, joined the business and on Francis' retirement in 1939, the business was passed over as a partnership to the 3 sons.

1940's

Good Friday 1940. Work is carried out to extract and defuse a bomb outside the present day shop in Wide Bargate.

During the Second World War, the three sons were 'called up' to serve in the R.A.F. Sydney's wife, Elsie, was called in to 'hold the fort' and, with good fortune, Cammacks continued to trade during difficult times.

1950's and 1960's

Sydney's eldest son, John, was the first of the third generation to join the firm, followed by Ken's son, Roger, and with the gradual retirement of the three directors, Roger and John became sole directors of the business.
